Description:

EAGLE is a Best Practice Network that brings together some of the most prominent European institutions and archives in the field of ancient epigraphy to provide a significant quantity and quality of content for Europeana. In particular, it will secure the following:

  • Contribution to Europeana of inscriptions and related metadata coming from 25 EU countries: more than 480,000 images and related metadata, which includes translations of selected texts;
  • Implementation of an inscription-specific metadata model based on standards and recommendations developed through related Europeana projects;
  • Creation of a bespoke epigraphy service platform -including a dedicated mobile app- to bring new content providers and users to Europeana;
  • Validation of the project's results through user testing through two pilot programmes;
  • Dissemination and communication of the project's outputs to the epigraphers community, and to related initiatives and agencies, to ensure the project's sustainability;
  • Coordination  with Europeana and with the Europeana sister projects.
