The Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII) was formed in 1997 to build on Glasgow University's expertise in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in the arts and humanities and cultural heritage sector. The Institute initially brought together the Faculty of Art's existing Resource Development Officers (in History, Modern Languages, English and Music) and Art's IT Support team. Under the direction of Seamus Ross HATII rapidly expanded its research and teaching programme, hiring new academic staff and forming strategic partnerships with cognate areas within the University
