Elvira Immacolata Locuratolo graduated in mathematics at the University of Naples. Since 1982, she has been a researcher at ISTI (CNR) in Pise. Her research activity is focused on algorithms of mapping from conceptual to logical database models, model transformations and meta-modeling. She defined methods of conceptual database design, database re-engineering, approaches to data mining, ontology for database preservations and semantics for image databases. Recently, she transported some of her methods in the new scientific area of concept theory. She is the author of numerous articles in books and journals. She collaborated with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory at Oxford and with the Tampere University of Technology at Pori, Finland. She also carries out teaching activity in mathematics and computer science at the University of Pisa
